Abortion, Tony Campolo, Robert George, and Democrats

Dr. Tony Campolo will be going to Denver for the Democratic National Convention on August 25-28. He is on the platform committee for the the convention and will be addressing, on behalf of the Democrats for Life, the urgency to stop the endless debate between the pro-life and pro-choice positions and instead work together to bring down the number of abortions performed in the United States. He will be addressing the economic factors which he and others believe contribute to the overwhelming number of young ladies having abortions. Campolo believes that when a girl looks ahead to a future of supporting a child when she is not capable of supporting even herself that this leads to an substantial increase of abortions. By getting the government involved with these economic situations that will in turn cause the young pregnant girl to not see such a bleak financial future, Campolo believes the number of abortions performed each year can be dramatically decreased. Campolo, to his credit, has been consistently pro-life and has publicly issued statements of "disappointment" when Bill Clinton vetoed legislation to ban the partial birth abortion procedure and has been trying to get in touch with Barack Obama. According to Campolo, it has been "difficult to get through."

Robert George, the McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University, sees things a little differently. Although no one would argue that working to reduce abortions in the US is a bad thing, George cites concern that such efforts miss the big picture of what the legalization of abortion says to our citizens. I encourage you to listen to the 2 minute sound clip of George stating his concern over this issue:

I'm Back

As usual, this has been a very busy summer. I just got back from M-Fuge, a week long mission camp for teenagers, and am ready to get back to blogging.

First things first. Andi is 27 weeks pregnant. A couple of weeks ago we had the official naming ceremony. I would not let anyone call our little baby her name until Andi and I had the naming ceremony. You have probably never heard of a naming ceremony because I made it up. Nevertheless, it consisted of me playing Jesus Loves You on guitar, reading Scripture, praying, and then officially naming our little girl.

Her name - Callie Grace Meade

Last night Callie was really going to town inside Andi, kicking like crazy. I decided to read to her to try and calm her down a little bit. I thought the best material would be "The Story of Christianity" by Justo Gonzalez. It's a history book. I was reading about Eusebius of Caesarea and his undying support for the emperor Constantine. She loved it! Who needs cheesy baby books? My baby loves historical theology. :)

We have some pictures that I will get on here soon. Talk to you in a bit.
